Amazing rush of adrenline and style. A lot of movies are labeled "non-stop action", but Crank makes most of them feel like they have all the action of.....Ghandi....or Chariots of Fire.
The movie starts with about a three minute set-up and then it's off.....and doesn't stop. The premise: A hit-man is inject with the "Bejing cocktail" that puts him into a condition where only a rush of adrenaline will keep his heart beating. In other words, he can't slow down...and neither can the movie.
Hands-down the best action movie of the year. Smart, fun, and funny, with one of the most memorable sex scenes EVER...."Come on, honey. Save my life."
I've said this before--2006 being the year of the unsatisfying ending, Crank also feels like they didn't know how to end it, but at least it ends with the same style and high-velocity fun that propelled it.
I normally don't care much for the fast-cut, MTV-style of editing, but in this movie it works and only adds to the frenzy and energy. Jason Stratham (SP?) is purely volatile as a guy just trying to stay alive.
The DVD even has a nice feature that allows younger audiences to enjoy by deleting the profanity, which is abundant. I'm sure there's still plenty of violence though.
I'll probably watch this one again. It's fast and lean and a hell of a ride.
