    Remembering Doc Klos

He's been gone not quite a year, but I don't recall a tribute to Thornton "Doc" Klos on this forum. I still miss him. He personified the word "Gentleman" but he was a director, an actor, and for me a coach and mentor. Known as "Steve Russell" when he went Equity, he was as gentle but savvy a person as I've ever known. He could introduce Beowulf to Grendl and manage to see that they were polite as long as they were on stage. And I've never found anyone who had the faith in my acting ability that Doc seemed to have. That's not the only reason he was dear to me, but it surely didn't hurt our relationship.

Anyone have any Doc stories to share?

Great idea: I met Doc during my second local show, "The Living" at CTS Edyvean. He was always upbeat, friendly and worked on his roles so hard during the show, I thought he might pass out backstage. That was the only time we shared the stage, back in 1994, but he always said hello whenever we would run into each other at other events - right up to a year before he passed.

He was an original - and he left his mark.

Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to work on stage with Doc. We were very well acquainted, however, and shared many wonderful conversations. I also had the pleasure to see him many times in various productions, as well. Such a kind and gracious soul.

I was privileged to work with Doc several times. He was always a gentleman, confident in himself and those around him. It is odd, he just popped into my mind the other day. During my conversation with Cathy about his death, we realized we had not been made aware of when it happened. We weren't even aware of the year that had passed since his death. We certainly would have been there to share. Perhaps Epilogue could have a Doc Kloss night. It would be nice to be able to take part in some sort of remembrance of his life. Perhaps this has already happened and we were unaware of it. If so, we are sorry to have missed it. The Theatre community...the world... is missing one fine gentleman with his passing..
