Could Angels Be Blessed opens April 20 at SWP

This Indiana premiere of Ohio playwright Nancy Kiefer's adult drama is set on the near Westside of Cleveland in the summer of 1945, where lives and relationships overlap as tightly as the backyards do. When a young soldier comes to visit the mother of his dead war buddy Freddie, the women who meet him - Freddie's mother, aunt, cousin, his best friend and her mother - are anxious to share their grief and open their homes to him. However, the young man also brings some revelations which challenge their understanding of love and courage. Ms. Kiefer's sensitive and delicately crafted play takes a poignant look at postwar America, addressing themes of intolerance and the suffering of those who don't fit into the norms of society.

    The outstanding cast features:
    Lucy Clifford - Susie Wolfley
    Lottie Dugan - Deborah Adams
    Caroline Clifford - Denise Rohn
    Polly Raleigh - Susan Gaertner
    Marlene Raleigh - Shauna Keith
    Domenic Cozza - Justin Robertson

Thanks to all that supported us on our opening weekend. There is still one more weekend to see the Indiana premiere of this touching drama. Showtimes are 8pm Friday and Saturday and 2:30pm Sunday. Doors open 1/2 hour before showtime. Tickets are only $10 and reservations can be made by calling 317-750-6454.

I received the following "review" from a patron who attended the show on Sunday....kudos to my wonderful cast!!! (and it shows that Sunday performances are valued by some patrons)

“I went to the Sunday show. That time slot works best for my early rise schedule and I could attend and enjoy the show without missing my bedtime. I happily paid the extra meager $2.00 for the comfy couch seating in the front row.
The play quickly introduced us to three main characters and their anguishing dilemmas. Lucy (Susie Wolfley) and Lottie (Deborah Adams) gave wonderful and convincing portrayals of their characters. I had no trouble empathizing with their tormented roadblocks in their lives. The supporting characters did a great job giving us scenes of comic relief such as the flirtatious Marlene (Shauna Keith) and Polly (Susan Gaertner) complaining about the local scholarship recipient. All of the actors left me with the impression that the parts were written for THEM. The two-hour production flew by and I had left pleased that I had placed Could Angels Be Blessed on my Sunday schedule.
I knew that John had received Best Director last year and was very interested if this production would live up to his last one, The Sum of Us. It definitely did. I can’t say enough about the flow of the scenes and the set was superb!”
