Buck Creek Playhouse will hold open auditions for Flaming Idiots, a farce by Tom Rooney. Director Bernard Wurger is looking for actors adept in comedy/farce. Specifically, two females, six males, and one body. Auditions will consist of readings from the script, and auditioners are strongly encouraged to have read the script beforehand to become familiar with the characters. All roles are available. Flaming Idiots is scheduled for a six performance run September 21-30, 2012. To peruse a reading copy of the script, please contact us at buckcreekplayers@yahoo.com. Carl and Phil decide that the ladder to success at the post office is missing a few rungs. They know that big money is waiting for people with entrepreneurial spirit and sound business judgment. They open a gourmet health food restaurant with much vim and vigor, but there is just one problem: they have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Zippy’s, a popular spot across town, has been crowded ever since Cy Manamalencia, a notorious mobster, was shot there. And that was over twenty years ago! What if someone could get murdered in their restaurant? Flaming Idiots is a classic farce filled with mistaken identity, profound confusion, slapstick antics, and a lot of door slamming. The piece won the 1992 New American Comedy Festival Award.

He really does, Susan! Bernard was my directing professor at Butler. I also learned the true "art" of physical comedy when he directed me in The Boys From Syracuse while studying there. He is a master at farce, and I hope he can attract a strong group for this hilarious show.
