    Re: LOST

As I said, I didn't see the first episode, but I don't think you've missed any "set up". So far there are far more questions than answers. And what answers we get only bring about more questions. But it's so much fun questioning.......

That's my fear for the series, that it will become like the X Files....with false promise after false promise of answers, only to lead us in another meaningless direction to the point where, as an audience, we no longer care. A series like this has a definite shelf life before we just get tired of being strung along. But right now, I'm hooked!

Also, in the Mr. Locke episode, the US Marshall was slowly dying and Kate still had his gun. Sawyer (thanks for the names!!!), the jerk, was suggesting that he be put out of his misery and not let any resources be wasted on him. The Marshall asks to be left alone with Kate and the Doc does so. While she is alone with him, it is brought to his attention that she has the gun. As he is running back to the tent, we hear the gunshot. The Doc sees Kate walking out of one side of the tent, dejected. We fear she has shot him. Then we see, she has no gun. We think, she gave him the gun so he shot himself. Then, the Doc sees Sawyer walk out of the other side of the tent, gun in hand. He says, "I did what you didn't have the guts to do!" This is the kind of constant switcheroos that are being played on us. It's not pulling any punches. You've got to stay on your toes. I love it.

    And, yes, Sphere sucked.

    PS. So did Kingdom Hospital.

And, in that shooting thing, Sawyer, who is this major jerk who seems the type to know how to shoot to kill, royally screws up and shoots the marshall in the chest rather than head. Managed to puncture the guy's lung and makes his suffering even worse. It was a powerful moment to see the vulnerability of this tough guy.

I also forgot about the radio signal they picked up from a French woman on the island asking for help. It repeated continously and counted each transmission. They figured roughly that it had been repeating for 16 years.

    Ok, Joe. Tonight's the night.

To catch you up completely....last week centered on the Doc who began chasing the mysterious suited man. In flashback, we find that he had a strained relationship with his father who told him that he didn't have "what it takes".

On the island, when he finally catches up with the mysertious suited man, he finds that it is his father. Then the man seems to disappear again, or rather just displace himself, leaving the Doc to continue running in all directions until he nearly falls off a cliff.

He is rescued by Mr. Locke.

In another flashback, we find that his father had disappeared and his mother sent him to Austrailia to bring him back. She also mentioned something horrible that the Doc had done.

In Austrailia, the Doc finds his father....dead.

On the island, while searching for his father again, he stumbles upon another part of the plane that fell to the island. Amid the wreckage, he finds his father's coffin. It is empty.

    Duh, duh, duh-dummmmmm!

    Ok, you're caught up.

So THAT'S what I have been waiting around for?

I dunno... I expected some excitement or something. Gary built it up for me... and I built it up for my wife... and in the end we both looked at one another and said... "Is that it?"

By the way... I missed the last few minutes. What did the son ask his father?
    Anything come after that?

    Re: LOST

    "When's your birthday?"

    That was pretty much it.

It isn't supposed to be action packed each episode. Maybe it is best if you've watched from the start. Being invested in the characters and wondering about where they were coming from may be the best driving force. The mysteries of the island are revealed slowly.

    Re: LOST

    It's definitely a character-driven story!!

The fun is in thinking one way about these characters then finding out you are completely wrong. For example, thinking that the Korean woman was so subserveant and in love the whole time only to find out whe was on the verge of running off!

I have to say, though, even though I ENJOYED THEM and last's night's was stronger than the week before, the last two episodes were the weakest yet. I think it's settling in now, though. It started off with a bang and is just slowing down a bit.

You definitely have to be invested in the characters and know them to enjoy it fully. Stick with it, Joe. There's still more weirdness coming from the island. The Doc's dead father is running around, there's some giant animal, and two dead people from 40 years ago.

By the way, was the deal about the watch set up on the first episode? Did they show him finding it? Or was that out of the blue?

I just found out that they are repeating Lost episodes every Sat night, two a night, I think. Don't know if they are starting over though.
