Playing a CRUEL character is fun on stage but...

Dont' expect any applause or love from the audience.

I was listening to the the audience of 4 at our preview night and they were very responsive to all the songs... Whoopin and Hollerin'.

    Then came my big solo.

Well... I just got done yelling at Hannah for being stupid and busted into "Diggin' Stone" which in the end I felt pretty good about.

I finishe dthe big final note and... crickets.

I swear to GOD there were crickets!

Oh well... being bad comes at a price.

And YES Gary... before you jump in.

There is the possibility that I just sucked. I have considered that one as well.

I do have to say that I like my theory more! You get no love from the audience when you play a wife abusing jacka** even if you do have a decent song.

You did not suck. I think that they were blown away by the power and intensity of your song/voice. And there was some applause, just not a lot. Like you said, I think the audience picked up that you are a wife-abusing jackass!

    Wife beater

I almost whoooped, cause it was AWESOME. But, it's not really a song you whoop after.
    EVERYONE COME SEE THE SHOW!!!!!

If the audience thinks you're a wife-abusing jackass and you get less applause, but, as a result, your abused stage wife gets more applause out of pity . . . well, I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Joe, your song rocked last night! And there were not "crickets!" Sometimes I am so into the "moment" when I am performing, I don't even hear the applause. I have been known to come offstage and ask, "Did they applaud at all?????" I think you are so into it, that this happens to you as well. Thanks again for being a part of this wonderful production. You could not play this role any better than what I had hoped. Have a great opening night tonight!!!!!!

So I can do it as long as I never admit it and come up with excuses when the LD asks what happened? got it.
